Most travelers to New Zealand include a walk or trek as part of their itinerary and whether this is a short amble into the bush or a multi day hike such as the Milford Track or Hollyford, it's a good idea to talk to someone about the benefits of each trip over another according to your fitness level and what you expect to get out of the experience. At GINZ we recommend guides who are knowledgeable and will look after your safety and comfort.
The Hollyford is a spectacular 3 day guided walk from the mountains to the sea that is suitable for a wide range of fitness levels. Included in the package is return transport from Queenstown or Te Anau to the track, meals, snacks, accommodation, and use of backpacks and rain jackets. Accommodation is in our well appointed lodges with twin share rooms and each trip has a maximum of 16 walkers. The season operates from late October through to April.
For those of you who prefer a day walk, returning to the comfort of your hotel or lodge at night, we recommend Guided Nature Walks. Based in Queenstown they have several great options for full day trips such as the Matukukituki Valley/ Rob Roy Glacier trip which involves a 5 hour trek on a well used but uneven track into the Mt Aspiring National Park and with views of snow capped mountains, the glacier and abundant birdlife. Another excellent day option is a walk on the Routeburn Track, a 16 km easy walk on a well formed track and with beautiful ancient beech forest, birdlife and fantastic fauna.

The best way for most travellers to experience the wonders of Outback Australia is on a guided tour and highly recommended for a quality experience are Australia Pacific Touring. This is a great way to travel as a single, couple or small group where you are driven by an experienced outback guide and driver in a comfortable 4 wheel drive vehicle and stay in permanent tented camps along the way. My mother and a friend have just completed the 12 day Top End and Kimberley Escape. This trip starts in Darwin and finishes in Broome on the West Coast of Australia where you can fly onto any major Australian city.
The trip includes the Kakadu National Park, the Katherine Gorge, Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park), a stay at the El Questro Station and Wilderness Park, Fitzroy Crossing and onto Broome. The level of accommodation is good with lodge and wilderness camps included - the latter have ensuites and decent beds - a touch of luxury in the outback. All transport, Park fees, walks, cruises, food and accommodation are included in the rates. A good level of fitness is required to undertake the guided walks included on the trip.
