Just a reminder that Easter is early this year - 25th - 29th March 2005. It falls outside of the usual school holiday period in New Zealand, the weather is likely to be warm and settled in March so it will be an excellent time to travel. Campervan bookings are already high. If you are planning to travel by camper or rental car in this time period we recommend you make bookings as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

While we locals are all heading for the beaches and rivers right now, it's not too early to start thinking about ski holidays - last season was one of the best ever and we recommend the south island fields around Queenstown, Wanaka and Methven for the most reliable snow and top facilities. GINZ.com has Skiing Package options available at which include accommodation, 4WD drive rentals, ski passes and gear hire. Skiwi packages offer campervans or rental cars and ski passes at a number of fields for those who want flexibility.
Accommodation options include apartment style, family, hotel and luxury lodge and start from NZ$951 per person for 6 nights.
Skiing on the Tasman Glacier at the base of Mt Cook on a beautiful clear winter day is an experience of a lifetime. A ski plane takes you to the top of the glacier and you are escorted down by a ski guide (avoiding crevasses!) and return to the top again by plane for a hearty lunch and another run down the glacier. The skiing is easy and relaxed and there is plenty of scenery to take in along the way.
For the more experienced skier, we can also arrange heliskiing in the Mt Cook National Park and in the Rakaia Gorge/Methven area with Alpine Guides. Alpine Guides first introduced heliskiing in New Zealand in 1976 and can also offer back country skiing and ski mountaineering.

With around 1500 courses, Australia has something for everyone from local 9 hole paddock courses in country towns to international standard courses catering for enthusiasts, holidaymakers and corporate guests. Throughout the country golf is played by men, women and children from all walks of life and is definitely not just a game for the well heeled. If you travel with your clubs you will certainly never be without a game and will experience friendly local hospitality good cold beer at the club house and the dress required is whatever you like!
At the other end of the scale, many of the top courses are associated with 5 star accommodation such as The Links Hope Island on the Gold Coast which is rated in Australia's top ten. Turtle Point on the Whitsunday Coast is David Graham's first Australian design commission and has fairways grassed with couch previously reserved for greens. Paradise Palms, just North of Cairns is an awesome course set at the foot of a tropical rainforest and all these courses and many more welcome visitors. They are generally available 7 days a week often at prices less than $100 for 18 holes including a motorised cart.
There are a great variety of golf terrains throughout Australia, from Coastal links to heavily wooded mountain country. For many golfers, natural bush and native trees often have the most spectacular results.

Pacific Island News
