Day 1.
Arrive Auckland. View the city from the Sky Tower, visit the Americas Cup Village and explore the shops and cafes of Parnell. Take a boat trip to Waiheke or Rangitoto Islands or across to Devonport. Stay CityLife Hotel in the heart of Auckland.
Day 2.
Travel South by rental car to Waitomo Caves (200 km, 124 miles, 2.5 hours) visit the Glow Worm Caves or go Black Water Rafting (optional). Drive onto Rotorua (2 hours, 166 km, 100 miles). Stay Cedarwood Lakeside Resort.
Day 3.
Explore the thermal town of Rotorua — visit the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, enjoy a natural mineral spa and don’t miss the Maori Cultural show and Hangi this evening. Stay Cedarwood Lakeside Resort.
Day 4.
Fly Rotorua to Queenstown. Explore this pretty Alpine town, take a ride up the gondola, go horse trekking, boating on Lake Wakatipu or take a jetboat ride up the Shotover or Dart Rivers Jet (both optional). Stay at St. James Apartments in the heart of Queenstown and sample local cuisine in one of the many top restaurants.
Day 5.
Take a day trip to Milford Sound. Fly from Queenstown airport into Milford and take a boat ride on then Sound with Real Journeys (optional tour), return by coach or plane. St. James Apartments.
Day 6.
Drive to Mt Cook in the Mackenzie basin (263 km, 160 miles, 3 hours) and take a scenic flight with Air Safaris or The Helicopter Line (optional) over the Southern Alps. We recommend a flight which takes in the Glaciers on both sides of the divide — don’t forget your camera! Drive on the Lake Tekapo (99km, 60 miles,1 hour) and stay at the Chalet Tekapo.
Day 7.
Drive to Christchurch via the Canterbury Plains (226 km, 140 miles, 3 hours). Explore the very English city of Christchurch and enjoy the riverside cafes and shopping. Depart Christchurch airport.
