Day 1.
Arrive Auckland. See the Americas Cup village, take a boat trip to Waiheke Island and visit the shops and cafes of Parnell Village. Stay The Sebel Suites.
Day 2.
Travel to the Coromandel Peninsula in the Bay of Plenty (160 km, 100 miles, 2 hours). The Coromandel has beautiful golden beaches, great swimming and bush walks. Stay Bushland Park Lodge.
Day 3.
Travel to Rotorua (165 km, 100 miles, 2 hours). Explore this volcanic thermal resort, geysers and mudpools and enjoy a mineral spa. Experience a traditional Maori hangi and cultural concert this evening. Stay Waiteti Lakeside B&B.
Day 4.
Drive to Napier (223 km, 140 miles, 2.75 hours) via the Huka Falls and Taupo, New Zealands largest lake. Stay Te Mania Hotel in Napier.
Day 5.
Take in a tour of Napier, the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. Drive to Martinborough (263 km, 160 miles, 3.25 hours) visit the vineyards and taste the Pinot Noir that has put this pretty town on the world map. Stay Martinborough Hotel.
Day 6.
Drive to Wellington (100 km, 60 miles, 1.25 hours). Take a walk around the waterfront and visit Te Papa, (Our Place) — New Zealand’s newest and most interactive museum. Stay Mercure Hotel Wellington.
Day 7.
Leaving your rental car at the ferry terminal, catch the Interslander ferry crossing to Picton in the South Island. At Picton pick up another rental car and travel to Kaikoura (160 km, 100 miles, 2 hours). Stop off at The Store at Kekerengu for a meal with the Pacific Ocean as your back drop. at Lemon Tree Lodge.
Day 8.
Go Whale Watching or Swim with the Dolphins (both optional) and enjoy the wonderful marine and birdlife this coast has to offer. Stay again at Lemon Tree Lodge in Kaikoura.
Day 9.
Drive to Christchurch (183 km, 112 miles, 2.25 hours). If time allows, take a side trip to Hanmer Springs on the way (allow another 2 hours), relax in the natural mineral hot pools in this alpine resort town. Stay Hambledon in Christchurch.
Day 10.
Travel to Queenstown (486 km, 300 miles, 6 hours) via The Mackenzie basin and Mt Cook. Stop off for lunch beside the milky blue glacial lake at Tekapo and take a scenic flight (optional) over the Southern Alps and West Coast Glaciers. Drive onto Queenstown via lakes Pukaki and Dunstan. Stay Browns Boutique Hotel.
Day 11.
Queenstown offers something for anyone — adventure enthusiasts, walkers, photographers, foodies and shoppers. Take a trip to Arrowtown and a jetboat trip up the Shotover or Dart Rivers Jet (both optional). Stay Browns Boutique Hotel.
Day 12.
Take a day trip to Milford Sound with Real Journeys (optional) or drive over to Wanaka for the day. Browns Boutique Hotel.
Day 13.
Drive to Dunedin (283 km, 175 miles, 3.5 hours). Stay at Lisburn House Lodge.
Day 14.
Visit the Albatross colony and take a Monarch Wildlife Cruise (optional). Stay at Lisburn House.
Day 15.
Return to Christchurch (362 km, 225 miles, 4.5 hours) via Oamaru and Timaru. Depart Christchurch.
