Costs are based on two people travelling and staying in a twin/double room.
Day 1.
Arrive Christchurch. Visit the Arts Centre and Botanical Gardens, take a punt ride on the River Avon, take a tram ride around the city centre or visit the Antarctic Centre.
Day 2.
Drive to Kaikoura (180 km, 112 miles, 2.25 hours one-way) and take a Whale Watching trip, Swim with the Dolphins (both optional) and see seals and other marine life. Alternatively, take a day trip to Hanmer Springs, enjoy a walk or horse trek and soak in the natural mineral hot pools.Return to Christchurch.
Day 3.
A spectacular drive south to Queenstown (486 km, 300 miles, 6 hours) today, via the Mackenzie Basin and Mt Cook. Plan to have lunch by the lake at Tekapo, where you can take a flight over the Mt Cook National Park by plane or helicopter for a view of the West Coast Glaciers and Southern Alps, landing high in the snow below Mt Cook.
Day 4.
Spend the day in Queenstown — lots of things for all the family here. Take a horse trek, a jet boat ride, a gondola trip, bungy jumping, white water rafting, luge rides, shopping and great restaurants.
Day 5.
Take a day trip down to Milford Sound with Real Journeys.We suggest you fly down and take a boat trip on the Sound and fly back over the Fiordland National Park.Stay in Queenstown tonight.
Day 6.
Fly to Rotorua. Explore this lakeside geothermal resort town with its mud geysers and hot pools and experience a traditional hangi or Maori feast and cultural show here tonight.
Day 7.
Spend the morning visiting Rainbow farm for wildlife and the Agrodome or take a gondola ride up Mt Ngongotaha. For older children Zorbing is a popular option.Drive to Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula (190 km, 120 miles, 1.5 hours. Take an evening stroll along Buffalo Beach.
Day 8.
Take a picnic and explore the Coromandel Peninsula taking in beaches and bush walks.Recommended are Cooks Beach, Hahei and Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Baech where you can dig your own hot water spa pool in the sand at low tide.
Day 9.
Drive to Auckland. (140 km, 85 miles, 1.75 hours) Visit Kelly Tarltons Underwater world, the Sky Tower and the Americas Cup Village. Take a harbour boat trip on the Pride of Auckland or a ferry ride across to Devonport or to Waiheke Island.
