Day 2.
Spend the day within the Kakadu, learning about Aboriginal Culture from the 20,000 year old rock art at Ubirr Rock and at Nourlangie Rock and walk to the lookout here for great views of the escarpment. Take a scenic flight over Jim Jim and the twin Falls, spectacular in the tropical summer (Nov — May).
Day 3.
Kakadu — Katherine (300 km from Jabiru, 3.5 hours). Rise early for a sunrise cruise to view the wetlands, bird life and crocodiles then head south to Katherine and the Nitmuluk National Park. Cruise by boat or canoe through some of the 13 sandstone gorges.
Day 4.
Katherine — Darwin (500 km, 6 hours). Head North again to Darwin via the Litchfield National Park where you can enjoy a well earned swim in the plunge pools and spring fed waterfalls.
Day 5.
Fly Darwin — Alice Springs. On arrival, visit the Aboriginal Art & Culture Centre and, if time allows, take a drive out to the West MacDonnell ranges (about an hour West) and visit Stanley Chasm, Ormiston Gorge, Simpson’s Gap and Ochre Pit. Enjoy an Outback Bushman’s Barb-b-que for dinner.
Day 6.
Drive Alice Springs to Ayers Rock (461 km, 5 hours). Take an afternoon or evening tour out to The Olgas/ Kata Tjuta for a Valley of the Winds Walk and watch the sunset over the red domes.
Day 7.
Ayers Rock — Rise early to watch the dawn break over the giant monolith that is Ayers Rock/ Uluru (18 km from Ayers Rock Resort), or for something really special, take a sunrise balloon flight over Alice Springs. After sunrise you can either base walk Uluru with an aboriginal guided tour or self walk (9.4 km around the base). If walking sounds too strenuous, you can take a camel, a helicopter or perhaps a Harley Davidson tour!
