This tiny
state is the home of the national capital city of Australia,
Canberra. A purpose built city designed by the American, Walter
Burly Griffen, Canberra manages to combine all the trappings
of a modern metropolitan centre with the charms of a small
country town. Canberra has been described as 'a city scattered
through a park' and is well known as the Bush Capital. Designed
around three lakes, the city is laced with parks and gardens.
Situated at an altitude of 571 metres, Canberra enjoys distinct
seasons which present glorious blossom and flower festivals
in Spring, followed by hot, lazy summers. Autumn, busy with
festivals, offers a rich tapestry of colour as the trees turn
gold, orange and brown. Canberra winters are crisp and cool
with generally clear skies.
